I was reading through a journal I kept back in 1991 while I was embarking on my first big backpacking trip around Europe. I had about $2500 in my bank account that was slated to last 9 months. On August 6th I was in Copenhagen, touring the Tivoli and checking out the Little Mermaid.
Meanwhile on that same day, Tim Berners-Lee posted links to www on an alt.hypertext discussion group so they could play with it, ringing in the official launch of what we see today as a necessity. The Web has quickly become central to many of our lives. 15 years ago, I remember going to a travel agency, writing postcards, receiving letters, trying to find telephones. I returned to Europe a couple of months ago, booked my tickets online, reserved hostels online, called loved ones from Internet Cafes and Skype, emailed others and even did some work from there…all online. How things have changed.
